Peter Lillystone, Pastor of Waterloo Road Church :
Have you made any New Years resolutions? What kind of changes are you wanting to make to your life? Impatience is one of my problems. I always get into the wrong checkout at the supermarket. Someone's in front of me with lots of vouchers or the till won’t read the bar code. It’s so easy to get impatient and irritated. It's one thing for us to be impatient with ourselves or with others, but when we become impatient with God, we should watch out! Look at what David said to God. "How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? " Psalm 13 v1. David keeps asking "How long?" We're so time conscious. We break time down into split seconds, but what do we do with those split seconds? Sometimes we expect God to act immediately! But He doesn't always act like that. Abraham had to wait for 25 years for Isaac to be born. Isaac had to wait 20 years for his children. Moses had a wait of 80 years. God's schedule is not the same as ours. Sometimes He waits so that He can do more for us than we expect. When Jesus heard that Lazarus was dying, he waited until his friend had died before He came. But when He came, He brought a greater miracle and received greater glory. The hardest thing to do is to wait on God. But we can if we will trust Him and rest on His Word. Some of our greatest blessings come with patience. When we have to wait for God to act, we can be sure that He knows what is best for us. We need to trust God and be willing to wait for Him to act. Therefore we will need to be patient. I know I find this difficult, but with God’s help, this year I’m going to try. What about you? Are you waiting for God to act on your behalf? I want to encourage you to hang on in there and rest on God’s promises found in His Word. If you have a Bible, why not read David’s words for yourself. Read Psalm 13:1-6. If you haven’t a Bible and would like to read God’s word, why not contact us. I trust that 2006 will be a special year for you and your family. God bless you.
